I dress them carefully. I choose their meals with thought. When their little legs grow tired from an afternoon of adventures, I tuck them into their stroller and we carry on — together. We are, unapologetically, a pink household. (Green, we have decided, is simply not our colour.) I think about their joints, their ears, the quiet ways their bodies speak to me. I want them, one day, to arrive at wherever souls go — full, loved, and a little well-dressed — and say with certainty: she took care of me. But I also know how quickly days disappear.
